Our History

Pipes, like clouds, unrepeatable and light in weight.

This poetic image, as well as an analogy between pipes and smoke clouds, has inspired the name "Le Nuvole" (the clouds).
I started creating Le nuvole in 1996, after twenty years of experience, working for famous pipe makers in the city of Pesaro.

My wish was to make a pipe by my own hands, from A to Z.
Such a pipe had to be a carefully made product that would demonstrate uniqueness, harmony and be light-weight, just like the clouds.
These models are made possible through my wife, Stefania, who is fond of design.

How Maurizio Tombari makes his smoking pipes

A pipe gets its shape based on three main elements: Stefania’s purely aesthetic vision, uncontaminated by techicalities, my uncompromising vision of a matchless, hand-made product, and our joint quest for timeless shapes.
The combination of these three elements, as well as my experience, result in unique models, inspired by "antique memories, revisited".
Due to the long and labor-intensive process my making pipes, I have to limit my annual production to 250-260 pipes. I have chosen the internet as my way of marketing and selling my pipes because it gives the smokers and collectors of my pipes the convenience in both contacting me as well as purchasing my pipes.

Who is pipe handmade Maurizio Tombari

Maurizio Tombari was born in Pesaro in 1953 and he gets a diploma in painting in Accademia di Belle Arti in Urbino in 1978.

Since then until 1996 he worked for pipe makers Mastro de Paja e Ser Jacopo, at the same time he was an interior design and he took part in painting exibitions.

Le nuvole was invented in1996, as an expression from these experiences.
