Maurizio smoking pipes

What our customers say about our smoking pipe in 2004

Archive: 2008 - 2007 - 2006 - 2005 - 2004 - 2003 - 2002 - 2001 - 2000 - 1999 - 1998

Mr. Maurizio,

(day 1)
I received pipe#39 yesterday (to my suprise it took only 1 day to go from your place to mine...) and after unpacking, and unpacking again... I eventually found the pipe I was waiting for... (btw I'm glad you pack the pipes this way, as the mail-men in Holland can be quite rude...).

My wife was present while unpacking the pipe... and when it finaly saw daylight she screamed: 'It's not the same pipe as on the picture you showed me!'. And to be honest... in first instance I was shocked too! The colour of the pipe was much darker than we saw on our computerscreen at home; and even on the computerscreen in my bookshop (which is top 'of the bill' btw).
But, after examining the grain, we came to the conclusion that it is exactly the same pipe...; and after holding it for a couple of hours in my hand... watching it... feeling it... discovering it..., I can come to only one conclusion: IT IS PERFECT!
It is in fact much more beautifulll than the initial colour on the screen, and the shape and feel of this pipe: WOUW!

(day 2)
I'm breaking it in easy, but to be honest, I cant really speak of a 'breaking in' as the pipe smokes great from the start; something I've never experienced before!

So thanks Stefania for drawing this beautifull pipe (which shape sits imho between an apple/prince/rhodesian/bulldog (or am I just bad in interpreting classic styles?) and which I -and my wife- just LOVE, and of course: Thanks Maurizio for just picking out this piece of briar, this perfect bit, the shapes, the finish and touch to this HEAVENLY light and balanced pipe!
Hope to be able to order a second Le Nuvole pipe soon,
Michel

An interesting review on italian pipes titled "Irrésistibles Italiennes", has been recently written by Erwin Van Hove and published on the web site Fumeurs de pipe. At the end of the article there is a nice review on Le Nuvole pipes. I'd like to thank Erwin Van Hove from all the the italian pipe maker!

Maurizio is one of the finest pipe artisans I know.
I have been in the pipe and cigar business for nine years and have purchased many pipes (from a variety of pipe makers) for my stores, but the pipes I smoke are Le Nuvole. The reason I smoke Le Nuvole pipes is that, in a word, they are flawless. When you first get your pipe the first thing you will notice is that the briar is AAA grade. You can taste the briar. Maurizio spends many hours and days to obtain the best briar.
From that, he crafts a work of art that fits that particular piece of briar. The turns are exact and the finish is always perfect. But he does not stop there. The mouthpiece is cut so it is not bulky and awkward, but light and comfortable. He uses rods of high grade Lucite that quite frankly create the best and most comfortable mouthpiece available on any pipe on the market today. My collection of Mauizio’s pipes keeps growing as you can see. Maurizio is a master craftsman and Stefania is a creative and visionary designer.
Le Nuvole Pipes, I give them my highest rating 5 stars.

David collection of Le Nuvole pipes

Dear Maurizio: I can not thank you enough for the latest Le Nuvole acquisition to my collection.
It is the most beautiful Pignattina I have ever seen. And, just when I thought it could not be any better, you made for me a long Cumberland stem.
Looking at this pipe, I am sure that any Hobbit or Wizard, upon viewing it, would be quite jealous!
The pipe smokes incredibly well, and has from the initial bowlful. It passes the pipe cleaner test with both the long stem as well as the short stem - a testament to a well-engineered pipe.
I especially love your stem work; it is by far the most comfortable stem made; it sits right in my teeth as though it was custom made.
This pipe marks the eighth Le Nuvole in my collection.
I can assure you there will be many more to come. Keep up the good work.

Non puoi non far visita a Maurizio Tombari."
Detto fatto.

Omygoshisthisabeautifulpipe!

O my gosh- is this a beautiful pipe! SPLENDID, Maurizio. Positively. And to think no one bought it in Chicago .... There's an old saying about one person's loss being another one's gain.
What can I say about this pipe- the fit and finish are completely flawless:
1. A pipe cleaner passes with effortlessly.
2. The mortise opening is beveled with the joint face carefully stained and polished. The sharp line where the stain stops
3. The bit is perfect- nice, comfy, thin bit. The beveled tenon makes for an even airflow.
4. The grain pattern is dead center, bird's eye on the base of the bowl (and bottom and top of the shank) with the straight grain rising to present the gorgeous bird's eye grain in a great span around the broad sweep of the upper tier.
5. Inside the bowl is stunning straight grain on the sides with even more bird's eye in the bottom. It's a shame to cover this with cake- but somebody's got to do it!
6. It wouldn't be a product of nature without a handful of very inconspicuous tiny pinpoint flaws, reminding me how fortunate I am to have you use a piece of briar this lovely with no sabotaging, savage briar pits! Bravissimo, Maestro Maurizio! My humble congratulations on a truly world class pipe!

Dear Maurizio

My pipe has, most definitely, arrived!!
In fact it arrived with unbelievable speed. I ordered in the small hours of last Tuesdaymorning from the UK. When I arose and checked my email at 07.30, your reply was already waiting for me, giving me the tracking number for the order! I could not believe when checking the package the next morning at work that it had been unloaded at Nottingham airport, and by10.20 it was delivered to my home! Things just could not be bettered in terms of quality of service - some 30 hours from placing of order to delivery, from Italy to England.
Absolutely top-class! But now, the pipe itself, my dear friends, the new No.21!
Of course I knew from the website photograph that I was buying a pipe of elegance of form and fine grain. I expected a high quality of manufacture, having read reports of other customers, and knowing of your ethos and background.
Basically I was anticipating a pipe which could join my favourites, which include several English and Italian high quality ones I have acquired over some 42 years of smoking. Which brings me to explain why it has taken me a whole week to reply to you to thank you.
I must explain that I am a Scot, and that innate "canniness" of nature leads me to "suck and see" before giving opinion. I've done a lot of sucking this last week, and already your pipe is my number one. It simply gets better each time I smoke it and I find myself having to force myself to rest it.Being a musician, I have always respected the craftsmanship of those who truly understand how to create the best instrument from the wood they see in front of them, so that the player can touch its soul and form an aesthetic affinity. I can pay no higher tribute than to say to you Maurizio, that my new Le Nuvole has such a feel to me already, and that I look forward to many years of being in harmony with it.
I don,t know how many pipes you sell to the UK, as I only came across you by accident, following up some Italian pipe searches in the USA (via Pfeienbox originally, I think).
I shall certainly shout your praises over here!
Thank you again, and I have the feeling I'll keep an eye on your website!
Yours, Donald McNab.

Carissimo Maurizio,

E poi richiedono riposi brevissimi.
Grazie. Di cuore. Di tutto.

Dear Maurizio,

since the one I have is absolutely perfect, beautiful, and smokes fine, I will no doubt be buying another pipe (or two) from you. Thank you again for making such a terrific pipe. I have been smoking a pipe for about 30 years, and have had many, many pipes and this just might become my favorite of all time.
Many regards,

I have received my pipe. It was beautiful, as expected.
My wife noted that not only did it have the shape of a horn, but it also reminded her of a tulip.
I took that not only as a compliment to my choice of a pipe that smokes well and has wonder appeal to the eye, but also a tribute to you and your wife's novel approach to pipe making.
It is nice to enjoy the hard work you and your wife put into this treasure of a pipe.
Thank you
